Online Music Academy

The Online Music Academy (OMA) is the place parents turn to when looking to supplement their children's learning and build their confidence.

OMA offers Keyboard, Piano, Drums and Guitar courses. Children can learn to play confidently within 12 weeks of joining our music course.

We offer a membership service with an opportunity for your child to get an internationally recognised music certificate.

Online Music Course Overview

Keyboard

“Smiley C” “Eggy E that farts” and “Grumpy G” are some of the fascinating characters that students get introduced to on this course. Having met these captivating notes and more, students learn the skills associated with playing the keyboard. 

Course Goals:

  • Learn the notes on the keyboard
  • Learn to recognise note patterns and sequences
  • Play a major scale (one hand) with reasonable speed and accuracy
  • Cognitive development
  • Play up to three (3) nursery rhymes confidently by the end of the 12 sessions.

Drums

Learning to play the drum kit has never been more exciting than this. From acoustic kits to the latest electric and hybrid kits; the student will explore the world of rhythm and beats and be thrilled to bits while learning.

Course Goals:

  • ​Learn the various parts of a standard drum kit
  • Learn important drum rudiments
  • Learn how to construct various drum grooves.
  • Apply these drum grooves to songs
  • Play 2 solid rhythm patterns
  • Add fills and rolls
  • Cognitive development

Guitar

The student learns those skills associated with playing the rhythm guitar and how these skills can be used to aid the child’s musical development.

Course Goals:

  • ​Learn the various parts of a rhythm guitar
  • Learn how to construct main types of chords
  • Apply these chords to songs
  • Play 2 solid guitar strum patterns
  • Play 1 finger picking pattern
  • Cognitive development.

Violin

There has never been an exciting time to learn to play the violin. Your child will learn the skills associated with playing the violin and how these skills can be used to aid your child’s musical development.

Course Goals:

  • ​Learn the various parts of the violin
  • ​Learn how to use use the bow
  • Learn to recognise note patterns and sequences
  • Play up to three (3) nursery rhymes confidently by the end of the 12 sessions.

Registering for an online music lesson with us is as simple as 1-2-3. Registration fee and course material is £35. You can pay as you learn or make block bookings.

A gifted multi-instrumentalist, in 1995 Derin set up his first music academy with a vision to train and release people with no musical knowledge as budding musician. The music academy pioneered many community led initiatives in the area of music and the arts. Since then, Derin has trained and released thousands of students locally and worldwide.

Married with 3 kids, Derin co-founded with his wife Bidemi Johnson in 2008, Templesprings Music Centre which is a registered charity in the UK and an Arts Award Centre. An organisation, known for its music led youth programs, Templesprings engages over 850 children and young people every year in music making.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is a Free Taster Lesson?

A1:  A Free Taster Lesson is where you will get a try out a music lesson at no cost. This allows you and your child to have a feel of our music programme before making a commitment.

Q2: How will the Taster Lesson be conducted?

A2: The Taster Lesson will be conducted via an online video conferencing platform called Zoom. You do not have to sign up Zoom but you will need to be able to connect to the internet to use the platform. You will be provided with a link upon booking a free taster lesson.


Q3: What day and time do the Taster Lessons take place ?

A3:  

  • Lessons will be scheduled Monday to Friday.  There are no Saturday or Sunday Lessons.
  • The slots are between 10:30am - 11:15am GMT and 04:00pm - 04:45pm

Q4: How do I book the Taster Lesson?

A4:  You can book a Free Taster Lesson by clicking on any of the 'Book your free taster lesson' buttons. You will then be sent and email with information and a reminder of your lesson.

Q5: How long is the Taster Lesson?

A5:  The Taster Lesson will last for 30 minutes. Then 15 minutes will be dedicated for a discussion on our music programme.

Q6: What do I need for the Taster Lesson?

A6: You will need

  • A laptop/PC or Tablet 
  • Stable Wifi or internet connection  
  • You and your child will need to be present 
  • Keyboard (not essential for taster lesson but will be good if you have one)

Q7: How do I prepare myself and my child for the Taster Lesson?

A7:  Please ensure that:

  • You have good lighting 
  • Your surrounding is quiet and audio is working
  • You will need a web cam which will need to be on as this is a face to face lesson 
  • You will also need to be ready at least 10 minutes before the lesson.
